Terabeat

Privacy policy

Effective 6 October 2026 · Updated 6 October 2026 · Applies to the Terabeat app for iOS and Android

Short version. Terabeat has no accounts, analytics, advertising or tracking. Everything you make in the app stays on your device unless you choose to share it. The one thing that leaves your phone is an anonymous crash report when the app crashes, and you can turn that off in the app.

Who we are

Terabeat is published by Hinoro Studio, a sole-proprietor business (micro-entreprise) registered in France. For anything about this policy, write to support@terabeat.app.

Data the app stores on your device

The app saves the following in its own private storage on your phone. It is never sent to us. It is deleted when you uninstall the app, and you can delete individual items inside the app at any time.

If your phone backs up app data to iCloud or Google, this data is included in that backup under Apple's or Google's terms, not ours.

Permissions and what they are used for

PermissionWhy the app asksWhere the data goes
MicrophoneTo record your voice or an instrument into the loop, and to measure the real touch-to-sound delay of your device during calibration.Recordings are saved on your device only. Calibration keeps a timing value, not the audio.
Local network (iOS) / Wi-Fi state (Android)Ableton Link, which keeps Terabeat in time with other Link-enabled apps on the same Wi-Fi network.Link exchanges tempo and beat position with nearby devices on your local network. Nothing is sent over the internet, and no personal information is exchanged.
Files (through the system picker)To import audio files you choose as samples. The chosen file is copied into the app's storage. The app cannot browse your other files.
Sharing (through the system share sheet)To send a loop, clip or audio file to an app or person you choose. The file goes to the app you pick (Messages, Mail, a cloud drive, etc.) under that app's privacy policy. We never receive it.

The app only asks for a permission the first time a feature needs it, and every feature except the one asking still works if you decline.

Crash reports

If the app crashes, it sends a crash report the next time it starts, using Firebase Crashlytics, a service operated by Google. We use these reports to find and fix bugs, and for nothing else. Crash reports are on by default; you can turn them off at any time in the app: tap the session name, then the Crash reports button under the list of sessions.

A crash report contains:

A crash report never contains audio, your sessions, file names, or anything you typed. We do not use Firebase Analytics, so no usage events or screens are recorded.

Reports are processed by Google on our behalf under the Firebase Crashlytics terms and the Firebase privacy notice, and kept for 90 days. Google may transfer this data outside the European Union; it is covered by the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. The legal basis is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working (GDPR article 6(1)(f)).

What we do not do

Purchases

Any purchase inside the app is handled entirely by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). They process your payment and tell the app only whether a purchase is active. We never see your payment details.

Platform data

Apple and Google may collect crash reports, diagnostics and download statistics about the app according to your device settings and their own privacy policies. If you opted in, we can see this data in aggregated, anonymous form in their developer consoles. We cannot link it to you.

Children

Terabeat is a general-audience music app. It is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, of any age.

Your rights

Under the GDPR and French law you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, portability and objection. Your music and settings are on your device and under your control. Crash reports are anonymous, so we cannot find yours by name; turning the switch off in the app stops any further report, and you can ask us to delete the reports of a given install by sending us its Crashlytics installation identifier from support@terabeat.app. You can also lodge a complaint with the CNIL, the French data protection authority.

Future features

We plan to add optional sharing and community features (publishing loops, following creators). These will need accounts and servers. Before any such feature ships, this policy will be updated to describe exactly what is collected, and the feature will be opt-in. Using Terabeat as a standalone instrument will keep working without an account.

Changes to this policy

When this policy changes, the new version is published at terabeat.app/privacy with a new effective date. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
